TikTok Who?

Anyone who has never heard of TikTok, has clearly been living under some rocks for the last few months. For those people, here’s a small recap:

TikTok is a free application, established in China, where you can create your own videos and share them with your social network. Singing, dancing or just talking, anything is possible. Are you not a creative talent? Don’t worry, you can just watch other people’s videos as well and share them with your friends. The perfect amusement for those daily 15 minute-breaks.

We can already hear you thinking: Sounds cool, but I have a business, so what’s in it for me? Yep, you guessed right. As a business owner, you can advertise on TikTok, using the TikTok For Business platform. Do you want to reach your audience in a creative way? TikTok claims to be your ideal partner platform!
Since TikTok has suddenly grown into one of the most popular platforms, and this mostly for the younger generation, we can already see some big companies who have jumped this cart. Nike, eBay, KFC and Amazon are only a few names to begin with.

Digital Warzone

Of course, the fact that this extremely popular application has such a huge impact on the digital world, has not escaped Facebook’s notice. In an attempt to stay relevant and to keep as many companies as possible away from TikTok, Instagram (which is a part of Facebook) has launched a new application, which happens to be very similar to the TikTok app.

Yes, we are talking about “the new kid on the block”: Instagram Reels.

Next to the well-known Instagram Stories, you can now create movies that don’t disappear after clicking on them. Such a movie can take up to 15 seconds and you can even add some music or special effects. The creator of such a video can choose the people he or she wants to share the movie with.

Smart move from Instagram? We think so! The platform already counts for more than 2 billion users, which is still much bigger than TikTok’s platform.

Facebook takes it even further in its digital competition with TikTok. Apparently, Facebook has offered a lot of money to popular TikTok creators or influencers so that they would only exclusively post videos on Instagram Reels. In response to this, TikTok announced that the company will establish a 2 million dollar fund to distribute to different TikTok creators worldwide during the next 3 years.

Where is this battle going? Only time will tell…

Our key takeaway from all this: As a company you will continue to have more opportunities to reach your audience in a creative way, free or paid.
Be sure to test it out and have some fun!
