MEET EMMA

Introduce yourself and what you do in a few sentences.

Hello, my name is Emma and I would describe myself as a caring cheerful person. I graduated in a totally different business than my colleagues at The Dot Society. You probably wouldn’t guess it because it has something to do with criminals, hehe it’s criminology. After my masters I wasn’t really sure what to do next so I decided to do an extra master’s in management at AMS. Here I developed a lot of extra skills in just one year and discovered my interest in marketing and the online world. This year also opened a lot of doors for me on a professional level and that is one of the reasons that I became a Dotter.

What led you to the Dot Society?

Funny story, when I did my masters at AMS I lived for a year in the city center of Antwerp. During my weekly runs I would always jog past our office, and I would see the pink sign hanging on the wall. I looked up the business and it really spoke to me! An e-commerce consultant business with a lot of attractive clients founded by two women. When a vacancy came online I didn’t hesitate and applied. I knew that my background was different but that didn’t stop me from trying. I was really motivated and did everything in my power to make the best out of the solicitation. And well…my motivation and dedication got me in.

I’m happy that I got the offer because every day is different and not always easy but working with the best colleagues that support each other makes it a lot of fun.

What do you enjoy when you are not working?

There are days that I can really enjoy a night on my own and watch a cheesy romantic movie with (of course) a lot of snacks. But what really helps me after a busy day behind the screen is to go for a jog. I found my partner in crime here at The Dot and we do weekly runs together. Very nice! During the weekends I like to hang out with my friends, have dinner and drinks. Meeting up with my family and having cozy dinners is my way to go on Sundays.

Favorite quote

“Do it for your future self”. When you are afraid to say something or when you are having difficult times and not sure if you want to continue. Then keep this quote in mind and think about how getting through these difficult times will help you in the future. If you won’t get anything in return or feel better after it then stop what you are doing. It’s not worth it. If you think about it, almost everything that you are doing in your daily life can be beneficial for your future self. So don’t worry, most of the time you are doing the right thing!

How to be totally ready for 2022 as an e-commerce business.

After two years of Covid everyone is used to shopping online and everything needs to go as quickly as possible. There is no room for mistakes anymore.

As I think for myself (as an online consumer but also a consultant) I think there are two things that will be very important for an e-commerce business. Firstly, the shorter the customer journey the better (BTW we have a great article about that topic). In this customer journey, returns are going to play a big role. More and more people are becoming sensitive towards a return policy. So make sure that yours is clear and easy. Secondly personalization is a hot topic! Make sure you differentiate yourself as a brand through personalization towards your customers. They will love you even more for it!
